Eddie Brown was born October of 1947, in Charleston, SC.  He is the son of Joseph Gillard and Wilhelmina Frazer.  He has many brothers and sisters. He was raised on James Island, SC near Charleston. At an early age his family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he attended Sands Junior High School and graduated from George Washington Vocational and Technical School.  During the late 60’s, he relocated to Philadelphia, PA.  After serving time in the US Army and upon discharge he lived in Philadelphia, PA.  In 1974 he moved back to New York where he attended and graduated from New York City Community College.  Here he received an Associate Degree in Construction Technology. Upon graduation he relocated back to James Island, SC where he worked with his uncle in the Construction Industry.  He decided to return to college and obtained an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Trident Community College, in North Charleston, SC.  He obtained employment at the Naval Shipyard of North Charleston, SC as a draftsman and later transferred to the Naval Facility Engineering Command Southeast (NAVFAC).  He was transferred to Shaw Air Force Base Sumter, SC in October 1989. He retired from the NAVFAC in 2004 after 22 years of service.  After his retirement he was employed as a Construction Superintendent and worked at Shaw AFB and partnered in forming his own construction company in 2006.  Due to the downward turn of the economy this company was disbanded and he was rehired by NAVFAC as a contractor. 

He is a lifetime member of Blacks in Government, a member of the NAACP, a member of the Spann-Watson Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen and the National United Church Ushers Association of America,Inc. (NUCUAA).  He served on the Board of Directors of the NUCUAA for two terms.  He presently holds the position of President of the Council of Presidents of the Southern Region.  He is also President of the Church Ushers Interdenominational Association of SC  an affiliated of NUCUAA. He is President Emeritus of the Wateree Lower Division Ushers Auxiliary and a member of the SC Baptist E&M Ushers Auxiliary.  He attends First Baptist Missionary Church, Sumter, SC and serves as a Deacon and President of the Ushers’ Ministry and Superintendent of the Sunday school. 


He is married to Alfrita Brown. He has three children: Eddie, Jessica and Jesstyna.  He has one grandson, Eddie.  His favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6:  "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path".
