USHER CALVIN HASTIE
 2021 SOUTHERN REGION HONOREE

Mr. Hastie was born and raised in Sumter, South Carolina.  He attended Public School in Sumter.  He graduated from Manchester High and attended A & T College in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In 1958, he was drafted into the Army. After discharge, he made Long Island, New York his home.  He joined Concord Baptist Church where he served on the Usher's Ministry for over twenty years.  The church was a member of CUIA, an affiliation of the NUCUAA.  In 1969, he started attending the NUCUAA Conventions where he served as a doorkeeper.

After retirement, he moved back to Sumter and rejoined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.  He joined the Usher Ministry because he loved ushering.  He also joined the Brotherhood Ministry and became a Trustee.  One of his favorite scripture is Psalm 84:10, "For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness".

He is one of the organizer of the Church Ushers Interdenominational Association of South Carolina -(CUIASC).  He successfully passed both the School of Ushering and Instructor's exams.  He is presently an instructor for Areas I and III.  He is the CUIASC Board of Directors Chairperson.  He is a dedicated and faithful usher who loves to fellowship with ushers from other cities and states.

Bro. Hastie is a strong supporter of the National, and the Southern Region.  He has served and continue to serve on the Election Committee, The Nominating Committee and The Jody Finch Monitoring.

Thank you for visiting our website.  Once you have completed visiting our site, we hope you will be encouraged to seek additional information about us and to see why we are the :  "Second To None Region".

Through conferences, conventions and other organizational sponsored programs, our members are able to exchange ideas and learn new ways to deal with problems, while also enhancing the role they play in helping their church's ministry.  It is our aim through the Silent Method of Ushering, to train our members on the techniques and attitude of ushering, so they may be of a greater service to their church and pastor.  This training is done with the hope that through their courteous service and Christ-like manner, new members shall be added to their church's roll.

On behalf of the nine states of our region, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, we extend to you an invitation to join our region.
